The park
Buffalo on the floodplain, giraffe in the palms, and the same elephants crossing the beach at low tide. Saadani sees a fraction of the visitors the northern parks do, which is the whole point.

The camp
Sixty square metres of canvas and glass, a private deck facing the reef, an outdoor shower, and a bed you can see the sea from. Full board, and a kitchen that buys its fish in the village.

The days
Walking safari with a ranger, the Wami river at first light, a gallawa under sail at sunset, dinner on the sand. Everything within an hour of your deck, and all of it on one map.
When to come
Six domes, so the camp is never crowded and August books first. Full board, transfers from Dar es Salaam, and every experience on this coast arranged before you land.

Saadani is the only Tanzanian park where you can track elephants in the morning and snorkel a coral sandbank in the afternoon. Nowhere else makes you choose less.
Every rate includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and selected soft drinks. Our daily menus celebrate fresh local seafood, seasonal produce and Tanzanian flavours. Alcoholic drinks, park fees, transfers and optional activities are charged separately unless stated in your package.

Experiences
Possible sightings include elephant, giraffe, buffalo, warthog and a dozen antelope species; lion are present but rarely seen. Open vehicle, guide from the village.
Hippo, crocodile and kingfishers, upriver at the hour when the light goes copper. The quietest thing we do.
Five kilometres offshore, a bank of white sand appears at low tide. We arrange the excursion and the refreshments; bring swimwear, sun protection, a hat, sunglasses and reef-safe footwear.

Before you book
Cterra sits inside a national park, and Tanzania National Parks charges a conservation fee per person for each day you are inside the park — 6am to 6pm, not 24-hour blocks. It is not part of your rate and we do not keep any part of it — you can settle it with us at the camp or pay it at the gate.
We would rather you knew that now than at the gate. You will see the estimated amount on the very first screen of the booking, listed separately from your total.
Children aged 5 to 15 pay USD 10; under 5 are free. East African citizens and Tanzanian residents pay considerably less. These are guide amounts, set by Tanzania National Parks and not by Cterra. We confirm the rate that applies on your booking summary.
Getting here
One hundred kilometres north. Road transfer, or a short flight to the airstrip. We can arrange either.
You can see the island from the beach. Fly in, or combine Saadani and Zanzibar into one trip.

Access to clean water remains an important need in the surrounding villages. Whenever we collect water for the camp, we also help transport and provide water to local residents.
We assist the nearby dispensary by donating essential items and supplies whenever possible, to support better healthcare for local families.
We support the local village football team with equipment and other assistance. Football brings young people together, encourages teamwork and helps nurture local talent.
We prioritise employment for people from nearby villages. Recruiting and training locally creates sustainable livelihoods, develops hospitality skills and strengthens the local economy.
