At low tide a bank of white sand rises out of the sea about five kilometres off the beach. There is nothing on it. That is the point.
Mafui sits inside the marine extension of Saadani National Park, and it is the reason the park has a marine zone at all: the reefs around it are a breeding ground for reef fish, and green turtles feed on the seagrass nearby.
What you will find there
- A bar of white sand that only exists at low water, with no shade and nobody on it.
- Clear, shallow water and reef close enough to swim to.
- Dolphins are seen off this coast, and humpback whales pass during the migration months.
